The potential of scaling up climate solutions in Ethiopia

Join us to hear 10 low-carbon solutions for Ethiopia on Tuesday 15 May at the 2nd Annual Conference on Ethiopia’s Climate Resilient Green Economy in Sheraton Addis Hotel (Addis Ababa).

  • May 15, 2018 at 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
  • 2nd Annual Conference on Ethiopia’s Climate Resilient Green Economy, Sheraton Addis Hotel, Addis Ababa, Etiopia

The event will discuss the results and findings of the Nordic Green to Scale 2 project aiming to highlight the proven solutions from exiting fossil fuel-based economies and transitioning to low-carbon societies.

Green to Scale is a series of analysis projects that have highlighted the potential of scaling up existing climate solutions. Nordic Green to Scale 2 zooms in on selected countries, analysing the potential of scaling up existing climate solutions in two regions: the Baltic countries, Poland and Ukraine in Europe; and Kenya and Ethiopia in East Africa. For both groups, ten different solutions particularly promising for the region have been selected out of the ones included in the previous studies.

The analysis covers the emission reduction potential, costs and savings as well as co-benefits of scaling up the selected solutions. In addition, the study looks at the country-specific circumstances for implementing the solutions, including providing policy recommendations tailored to the needs of each country.

The results of the analysis for Ethiopia are released in this event. The event focuses on reflecting the key findings of the analysis to local conditions in Ethiopia, and discussing the analysis-based policy recommendations and investment and business opportunities arising for Ethiopia from scaling up effective low-carbon solutions.

The session is organised by SEI Africa and Sitra, as part of the 2nd Annual Conference on Ethiopia’s Climate Resilient Green Economy organised by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of Ethiopia and the Ethiopian Development Research Institute in partnership with the World Bank; the Ethiopian Environment and Climate Research Center; Sida; the Ethiopian Environment and Forest Research Institute; and the World Resources Institute.

The seminar will be held in English.
