A data economy that is fair for everyone is built one step at a time. The tools of a testbed developed by Sitra’s IHAN project can be used to develop and test services that are in accordance with the fair data economy.

“We are now looking for IHAN testbed pilot projects that are either underway or can be started quickly and that focus on solving challenges related to the sharing and standardisation of data,” says Juhani Luoma-Kyyny, Leading Specialist at Sitra. “The testbed is particularly suited for organisations that operate in a co-operative network consisting of multiple partners.”

Several successful experiments have already been implemented on the platform. These include the Finnish Tax Administration’s trial to make the process for establishing a company quicker and Wärtsilä’s and SEB’s digitalisation project on the export letter of credit.

Sitra does not directly finance the experiments. Instead, it provides the IHAN testbed with open source code to the selected projects, free of charge and for a fixed period. Applicants can operate in any industry.

The application process will be implemented as part of Sitra’s IHAN project, which is building a model for a European fair data economy. In a fair data economy, successful digital services are based on trust and they produce value for everyone. With digital services, trust between individuals and organisations is built on the ethical control of data, which is based on the transparency of data collection, control, exchange and sharing.

The application process opened on 25 March 2021 and will stay open until 17 September 2021. More detailed application instructions and selection criteria are available on the Sitra website.
