Jukka Vahti

I am a Senior Lead in Sitra’s Foresight and Insight team. At the moment, I am drawing up Sitra’s forthcoming Futures Barometer and engaged in foresight work related to the transformation of the security environment, among other things.

In my previous positions both at Sitra and elsewhere, I have familiarised myself diversely with the change in the information and media environment, the societal role of social media platforms and the challenges imposed on democracy by disinformation and misinformation. At Sitra, I have previously worked as a project director in the Digital Power and Democracy project. I have also co-written several reports, such as Tracking Digipower – How data can be used for influencing decision-makers and steering the world and Media-driven societal influence – A transition and the future (in Finnish). I have also been one of the hosts of Sitra’s future-oriented podcast Hyvää huomista (in Finnish). Before Sitra, I worked in journalism for more than ten years.

What motivates me in my work is the opportunity to reflect on how better decisions could be made with the help of futures thinking and foresight and how more sustainable democracy could be built in the digital era.
