Tarmo Toikkanen

I work at Sitra with data, the data economy and artificial intelligence. Our aim is to establish new approaches enabled by data and artificial intelligence in society.

My background is a combination of design, technology, psychology and learning. I look at phenomena from a multidisciplinary perspective, but the advantage is that I can also check what is behind the solutions based on artificial intelligence. Having worked in different organisations and as a researcher, I have been involved in helping Finland on its long journey towards an open and interoperable data economy from the very beginning.

I am interested in the possibility of having data and IT do the boring jobs on our behalf so that we as individuals and communities get to focus on more valuable matters. The greatest opportunities are provided by ecosystem-like co-operation carried out by several parties and based on interoperable data and shared ground rules.
