RIIHI CHALLENGE

A high percentage of Finns say that they like monitoring their own health and well-being, looking after themselves, and having a say in their treatment if they fall ill. In a society that offers a growing range of increasingly advanced electronic services alongside traditional health care and social services, they will have more and more opportunities to do just that. Aging population and financial sustainability of health and social services are setting requirements for the whole system. At the same time digitalization and the information about health and wellbeing citizens gathered are giving a great opportunity to find new cost-efficient and customer-oriented services.

As a global forerunner in digital healthcare, Finland is opening MyKanta Personal Health Record (PHR) in 2017. MyKanta PHR connects our data from wearables and apps with health care and social service professionals when needed. Thanks to data, we can tell more personalized stories about ourselves – even about our health. But tools are needed to move from data collection to actions and engagement. Do you have the solution?

RIIHI collaboration together with Kanta-actors brings MyKanta PHR to Junction. MyKanta platform is based on the emerging standard ‘HL7 FHIR’ that is used by multiple health IT giants worldwide. Some estimate that digital health markets will hundreds of billions of dollars by 2020.

ISAACUS CHALLENGE: Health Data Playground for Scientists, Developers & Innovators

The health data industry is about to undergo a massive transformation. Vastly expanding digital data is creating growing possibilities to explore and enhance human health and welfare. Thanks to better Electronic Health Records systems and Data Lakes there are increasing amount of data readily available for scientists, developers and innovators in the Academy and in the Healthcare Technology and Pharma Industry. With better opportunities for research and development to use the digital data, we can have better services, medical treatments and more efficient drugs.

When health and welfare data from different sources are connected together it can offer never-before-seen possibilities for analytics, new findings and growth. However, the existing data is still somewhat poorly described which makes it difficult to know which data sources are even available. Also a problem is that the existing healthcare metadata (i.e. information on existing data sets) tends to be scarce and static in nature. This leads to conventional practices when utilizing data.

The aim of the challenge is to create a totally new kind of interactive metadata catalogue for health and welfare data which offers an overview of existing digital health and welfare data sets. The aim of the application is not only to show which data exists and is available but to also it should create an innovative playground of different data sets. By suggesting new data sets for different kind of use and making it possible to form innovative data combinations it can give a new kind of customer experience and enhance and improve the possibilities of research and development.
