The circular economy is a complex concept because it addresses economic, environmental and social objectives simultaneously, and requires development at different levels across sectors and timescales. To become mainstream, new measuring approaches are needed to ascertain whether we are moving in the right direction. This will draw heavily on innovative data sources that provide an insight into the day-to-day behaviour of all societal stakeholders, especially consumers.
