A leading world expert on climate change, Dr. Rajendra Kumar Pachauri, chairman of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), visited Helsinki on 12 June to deliver a keynote speech to the conference “Sustainable Futures in a Changing Climate”, organised by the Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC). Pachauri also made a personal address aimed at all those in Finland concerned about climate change through a video made in co-operation with Storm Warning Association and Sitra.
In the exclusive interview Dr Pachauri claims that mitigating climate change is the biggest challenge mankind faces today. He emphasises the concept of collective responsibility and encourages everybody to act without any delay. In the video discussion Dr Pachauri is interviewed by a member of the Storm Warning Association, actress Vera Kiiskinen.
Myrskyvaroitus ry – the Storm Warning Association – promotes efforts to prevent a climate catastrophe and to find solutions to climate challenges, for example by lobbying decision-makers to make climate-friendly decisions. The association is politically independent and co-operates with other climate-friendly organisations and companies. The Storm Warning Association also helps spread knowledge on climate change by encouraging actors, musicians and writers to pass on the message, and organises different events, such as concerts and expert panel discussions. The association recently produced an event “Climate change catastrophe: Talk and Art” in New York with Finnish and international experts discussing climate change with artists.
