Meeri Toivanen

I am a legal expert specialising in EU regulations and competition policy. I work as a specialist in the Data and Artificial Intelligence programme. We are establishing innovative solutions in society to enable the economy to renew itself within the limits of the earth’s carrying capacity.

Before Sitra, I worked in the field of international trade agreements at the European Commission and in Geneva. I also worked with the themes of the rule of law and human rights in Brussels, where I was the deputy chair of the International Board of the European Law Students’ Association ELSA.

Since early 2021, I have worked at Sitra examining changes that have taken place in the regulation of the internal market and the opportunities it opens for Finns to succeed in the data economy. I am passionate about the identification of opportunities in the regulatory environment and for the planning of participatory processes.
